There can be no greater tragedy than the death of a beloved child. However for many children there is lots of living to do until you die! Seb was a wonderful example of just that, relishing every moment of life until the last with the family he loved so much and with his friends. Now Seb and his family will enable other children to make the very most of whatever life is left to them through this dream come true - Sebastian’s Action Trust. I know the ripples from his all-too-short life will continue to spread wider and wider and the world will most definitely be a better place.

A life cut short is a tragedy few of us can comprehend, but here at Hall
Grove the name Sebastian Gates is spoken less in sadness than in admiration
and respect, Sebastian’s courage, good humour, imagination, resourcefulness
and persistance are all combined in the campaign led by his family and
closest friends. His spirit is hard at work, achieving the apparently
impossible against the shortest odds. It is an enormous priviledge to
have been invited to serve the campaign as patron.

I have been involved in the treatment of children with cancer for the past 25 years, and I am only too aware of how difficult it can be for families to cope with the stresses caused by a life-threatening illness in a child. Anything which can help children and their families to cope must be an improvement on what would otherwise be available. In particular, the holiday home will be a welcome relief from the rigours of treatment and the tension of having to spend prolonged periods in hospital.
Sebastian was full of life and it was a privilege to have looked after him. He lives on now through his Trust and I am, again, privileged to be a patron.
